Privacy Policy
How ThinkFirst handles your data, in plain language.
This Privacy Policy explains how ThinkFirst ("the app", "we", "us") handles information when you use the app. ThinkFirst is designed to help you pause and think before opening distracting apps. It is not designed to collect or sell your personal data.
This policy applies to the ThinkFirst iOS app and this website. It may be updated from time to time as the product evolves.
This information is provided for transparency and does not constitute legal advice.
What ThinkFirst does
- Uses Apple Screen Time / FamilyControls APIs to block and temporarily unblock apps you choose.
- Shows you short puzzles and awards a brief unlock period when you complete them.
- Sends optional notifications to remind you when you're blocked and to open ThinkFirst to unlock.
Information we do not collect
By default, ThinkFirst is built to keep as much as possible on your device. The app is not designed to:
- Track your browsing history or content inside apps.
- Sell your personal information to advertisers or data brokers.
- Collect precise location data for advertising or analytics.
Information the app may handle
To function, ThinkFirst needs a small amount of information, most of which stays on your device:
- Screen Time access status – whether Screen Time and the required device activity permissions are enabled.
- Selected apps to block – the list of apps you choose to shield via Apple's FamilyControls APIs.
- Basic usage state – for example, whether you have completed a puzzle set and how much time is left in your unlock window.
- Notification settings – whether you've allowed ThinkFirst to send notifications.
This information is used only to make the app work as described.
Screen Time, FamilyControls, and Apple services
ThinkFirst relies on Apple's Screen Time and FamilyControls frameworks to block and unblock apps. These frameworks are provided by Apple and are subject to Apple's own privacy and security protections.
When you grant ThinkFirst access to Screen Time:
- ThinkFirst can only block or unblock the apps you explicitly choose.
- The app does not see the content inside those apps (messages, posts, etc.).
Notifications
ThinkFirst can send notifications to let you know when you're blocked and to prompt you to open the app to unlock with puzzles.
You control whether notifications are allowed in your iOS system settings at any time. If you disable notifications, ThinkFirst may still work, but you might need to open the app manually when you hit a Screen Time block.
Feedback and support
When you contact support or submit feedback (for example via email or the feedback form on this website), any information you share is used only to respond to you and improve the product.
If you email support, your message and email address will be stored in the email systems used by ThinkFirst (for example, your email provider and ours).
Data sharing and third parties
ThinkFirst is not designed to share your personal data with third parties for advertising or marketing. If third‑party services are used in the future (for analytics, crash reporting, or similar), this policy will be updated to describe what is collected and why.
Your choices
- You can revoke Screen Time / device activity permissions in your iOS settings at any time.
- You can turn notifications on or off in iOS system settings.
- You can uninstall ThinkFirst at any time. When you do, any app data stored only on your device is removed with the app.
